My Scottie has constant skin problem with itching, scabbing, hot spots, etc. This shampoo was first offered to me by my veterinarian but he had since stopped carrying it. I was absolutely delighted to see it offered on Amazon.com as it is the ONLY shampoo that helps my dog and I have tried many. Right away after using I could see that the itching has been relieved, my dogs coat looks 100% better, and she does not smell like a corn chip anymore! It contains a fungicide to fight fungal infections as well. If you are using this product on a dog, keep in mind that ringworm isn't very common in dogs. A staph infection looks almost identical to ringworm. Demodermic or sarcopic mange can also produce similar skin problems. Hypothyroidism may also be a culprit. In short if your dog is having skin problems that are resulting in loss of fur and/or lesions, this product probably won't help you at all and you need the services of a veterinarian to correct the root problem. As for the shampoo itself, it is relatively odorless and is very mild. Its active ingredients are 2% miconazole and 2% salicyclic acid (aspirin). The product claims to be both antifungal and an antiseptic shampoo. However, the only antiseptic ingredient is the 2% salicyclic acid and it did not appear to be effective against my dog's staph infection which I had mistaken for ringworm.
